A pair of auctions for Elvis Presley memorabilia are in the works, each one prompted by distinct and bizarre circumstances. In one, a British traffic court clerk who pocketed cash collected from parking meters in Lincolnshire over a period of 10 years is being forced by court order to sell her vast collection of signed Elvis memorabilia as restitution. Julie Walls, 46, stole nearly $1 million and spent almost all of it on Elvis items, mainly rare old recordings and CDs. She will also serve jail time.
In the other case, a Pennsylvania man said he was selling his 50,000+ Elvis-related items as a way to win back his girlfriend. Jim Curtin owns one of the world’s largest collections of Elvis memorabilia, including a white jumpsuit he says Elvis gave him in Las Vegas during a private meeting. The items were to be sold by Regency-Superior Auctioneers in Beverly Hills, where they could fetch up to $1.5 million. Curtin said he plans to use the money to win back his ex-girlfriend, Renata Ginter.
