Celebrity comic-book contributors are all the rage, beginning with horror author Stephen King, who will write a regular series for Marvel Comics this spring based on the Gunslinger character from his [amazon_link id=”0451211243″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]“Dark Tower” book series[/amazon_link]. And former South African President Nelson Mandela has launched the first edition of a series of comic books about his life. The comics are aimed at encouraging young South Africans to read and preserving his legacy. Mandela spent 27 years in prison for his beliefs.
Marvel has signed on three other guest writers. They are: Daniel Knauf, creator and executive producer of HBO’s “Carnivale,” who will write six issues of “The Ultimate Iron Man” beginning this spring; David Morrell, author of “First Blood” (which introduced “Rambo” and “The Brotherhood of the Rose”), who will write a “Captain America” story arc; and Eric Jerome Dickey, author of “Thieves’ Paradise” and “The Other Woman,” who will write a six-issue series starring “Storm” of the “X-Men.”
