Ken’s Korner: Residents of Gary mull value of Picasso mock-up – The Journal of Antiques and Collectibles – March 2006
For the past 35 years, a peculiar looking wooden sculpture has been sitting in a school cafeteria in Gary, Ind. School officials, politicians and the local citizenry know exactly what they’ve got: the 12-foot early version of nearby Chicago’s most famous piece of public art, the Picasso in Daley Center Plaza. The version in Gary is the mock-up for the iconic structure. It doesn’t bear Picasso’s signature, but since it is a one-of-a-kind, officials wonder what it might be worth anyway.
