A 16th century Russian icon made for a private chapel or domestic iconostasis, replete with local saints from Yaroslavl and Rostov, sold for $245,000 at a sale of the Laurence Steinhardt collection of Russian icons held April 10 by Bonhams in New York City. Also, an early 18th century triptych icon with Christ Emanuel and Archangels soared to $227,000; and a Smolensk Mother of God  icon made in a Kremlin (Moscow) workshop sometime between 1650 and 1660 went to a determined bidder for $173,000. Prices include a 20 percent buyer’s premium.
