A George II mahogany armchair, probably made in Ireland circa 1745-1750, sold for $437,000 at a sale of property from the Metropolitan Museum of Art held Oct. 27 by Christie’s in New York City. Also, a George II partner’s desk, possibly made by William Gomm, brought $341,000; a George II giltwood mirror, circa 1720-1740, realized $221,000; a George II mahogany knee-hole desk, possibly carved by John Boston, fetched $203,000; and a pair of George II mahogany armchairs, circa 1755, went for $106,250. Prices include a 20 percent buyer’s premium.
