Brilliant Weekend At Corning

Once again a special glass show and sale to be held at The Corning Museum of Glass in their auditorium,   April 25-26, 2015, in Corning, New York.  Show hours are 10am-5pm, April 25 and 10am-3pm, April 26. The event is hosted by The Corning Museum of Glass and presented by the Eastern Lakes and Mid-Atlantic chapters of the American Cut Glass Association.  Admission is FREE with a Museum admission or $5 at the auditorium door.  Preeminent glass dealers from across the United States will be exhibiting.  The presentation emphasis will be on American Brilliant Period cut & engraved glass, but also Steuben, American art glass, and English and European art & engraved glass. This year we have included early American cut glass and engraved glass as well to broaden our glass exposure and entice the public with even more varied offerings.
Last year, the special pre-show activity hosted by the Rakow Research Library was delightfully well received. Consequently, for Brilliant Weekend at Corning attendees this year, an informative workshop will be held on Friday afternoon at 2:00 P.M.  The event, coordinated by the ACGA Research Committee, will be presented by Gail Bardhan and Rebecca Hopman from the Rakow Library.  This year’s workshop is entitled, “Beyond Books: Exploring Ephemera in the Rakow Research Library.”  The workshop will feature information on glass house money, special advertising, etc. RSVPs are welcome but not required   and you may sign up by emailing  rakow@cmog.org or call the reference desk at 607-438-5399.
American cut & engraved  catalog reprints and research materials will be available for sale.  There will be a special setting where replacement stoppers can be bought or traded.
Included in the Museum admission is the world’s largest collection of art and historical glass, hands-on science and technology exhibits, and live glassmaking demonstrations. The Museum is also home to The Studio, a state-of-the-art glassmaking school where visitors can enjoy Make Your Own Glass experiences for an additional fee.  This will also be your chance to tour a major expansion of the Corning Museum of Glass opening in March 2015.  The new Contemporary Glass + Design Wing along with the new 500 seat Hot Glass shop Amphitheater will enhance the museum’s position as the leading glass museum in the world.
Saturday evening of the Brilliant Weekend At Corning, there will be a dinner at the Radisson Hotel for a cost of $38 with advance reservations and choice of entrée.
Additional information about the weekend can be obtained on the ACGA web site, www.cutglass.org , and The Corning Museum web site, www.cmog.org , or by contacting the show chairman, Harry Parker at 703-425-5574.
