McInnis Gallery to auction items from Bill Johnson Estate, July 10-11

Bill Johnson was a colorful character that was well known throughout New England as a collector of antiques, advertising and items that reflected the local culture/color. If you are a dealer or auctioneer in New England, chances are you knew Bill. He founded the roadside Johnson Hall Museum in Kennebunk where he assembled a collection that included everything from a 1930s gas station to abandoned railroad cars and a cabin from a former nudist colony. He was featured in “Yankee Magazine” and on the TV show “American Pickers.” Johnson died at an auction doing what he loved. Now his estate and personal collection will be sold at public auction in two sessions this summer.  There are literally tons and tons of treasures mixed in with random items.  Many have great value, others are simply fun. The sale will also include the 1776 Tavern that was his home.
The first session will be July 10 and 11 at the McInnis Gallery in Amesbury, MA. The second session will be onsite in Kennebunk on July 24 & 25. The second even will be like an Irish wake for an antique dealer. Bill loved auctions and there is no more fitting way to celebrate his life, his collecting skills and his contribution to local history, than with an auction. It is expected to draw dealers from across the country along with locals that knew Bill and of course tourists. Bill’s collection represents the culture of Maine over at least two centuries.
The Amesbury sale will feature Americana, toys, banks, important clocks, advertising, some of the finest Mochware found outside a prestigious museum, paintings, pocket watches, framed presidential signatures, nautical, fire related collectibles, Victorian and more.
The onsite session will be like Bill full of fun surprises and the 1776 landmark tavern.
John McInnis Auctioneers has begun the process of sorting through this unique lifetime collection. These two sales tell the story of man, his community and his time.
