Tiffany and Venetian Glass Authority to Speak at New York Metropolitan Glass Club Meeting

Sheldon Barr, noted Tiffany and Venetian glass authority, will be the final speaker of the New York Metropolitan Glass Club’s 2014-2015 season on Tuesday, May 5 at 6:30 PM . His lecture will focus on the vast and varied ecclesiastical work produced by Louis Comfort Tiffany over the period from 1880 through the first quarter of the 20th Century.
Mr. Barr will discuss the principal categories of work produced by Tiffany Studies over this time for religious institutions: leaded glass windows, mosaics, lighting, interior design elements, regalia and funeral monuments and mausoleums. His richly illustrated talk will also address recurring design themes and techniques of production.
A graduate of Columbia College and of the Columbia School of Architecture, Mr. Barr has been co-owner of Gardner & Barr, a gallery specializing in late 19th Century and early 20th Century Venetian art glass. A noted author, lecturer and consultant, he is a Fellow of the Corning Museum of Glass.
The New York Metropolitan Glass Club meets the first Tuesday of each month (from October through May) at St. Michael’s Church. Annual membership dues range from $25 (student rate) to $90 (for a family). Attendance on a per meeting basis is $15. This admission fee will be credited towards the annual membership fee, if an attendee joins the Club.
Our featured speaker’s presentation begins at 7:00 PM and is preceded by a wine and cheese reception at 6:30. After the meeting, many attendees enjoy dinner with friends and fellow club members in one of the many restaurants in the neighborhood.
