The 1964 Porsche 356 C 1600 SC Cabriolet sports car that was owned and driven by legendary rocker Janis Joplin sold for $1.76 million at a Driven By Disruption Auction held Dec. 10 by RM Sotheby’s in New York City. Joplin bought the car off a used car lot in 1968, then commissioned Dave Richards, a friend and roadie in her band Big Brother & the Holding Company, to customize it with a ‘History of the Universe’ mural. Also, a 1972 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV car by Bertone sped off for $2.42 million. Prices include a 10 percent buyer’s premium.
