An early 19th century folk art painted sugar chest sold for $263,250 at a Winter Antique & Fine Art Auction held February 11th by Cordier’s Auctions & Appraisals in Harrisburg, Pa. The buyer was Kelly Kinzle, owner of Kelly Kinzle Antiques in New Oxford, Pa. The consignor said their grandmother used it as a toy chest as a child. Family provenance places the 36-inch-tall chest in the South, possibly Kentucky, but Mr. Kinzle suspects it might ultimately trace back to Pennsylvania. The price includes a 17 percent buyer’s premium.
