An oil painting in bold red tones by Raimonds Staprans, titled simply Landscape, sold for $9,440 at an Estates Auction held Aug. 8 by Michaan’s Auctions in Alameda, Calif. Also, a vibrant depiction of fire by Vance Kirkland, titled Dot Series #15 (Red and Blue 1964), realized $6,490; a Haida argilite carved pipe and stone inscribed with an origin of Queen Charlotte Island, N.W. Coast America, fetched $7,670; and a painting by Hiroshi Yoshida, titled Sailing Boats, Evening, gaveled for $5,015. Prices include a 17 percent buyer’s premium.
