Potter & Potter Countercultural Sale Realizes $186,000

CHICAGO, Illinois — August 20, 2026 —

Potter & Potter Auctions concluded its 661-lot Skaters, Punks & Rebels: A Countercultural Cross-Section Sale on August 20, 2026, realizing a total of $186,000. The sale drew strong collector interest across a broad range of countercultural material, affirming the sustained market appetite for artifacts tied to underground music, skateboarding culture, and rebel movements of the late twentieth century.

The top lot of the sale was a Xeroxed handbill by artist Raymond Pettibon, created for a 1979 Black Flag performance at the Bla Bla Cafe. The piece far surpassed its pre-sale estimate of $300-$500, ultimately selling for $4,080, a result that underscores the growing recognition of Pettibon’s early ephemeral work as serious collectible material. Pettibon’s hand-drawn imagery, long associated with the Southern California hardcore punk scene, has attracted increasing attention from both music collectors and the broader art market.
