A wide selection of vintage fashion and historic textiles gathered from more than a dozen US museums, private collections and estates will go up for auction at Augusta Auction’s Couture & Historic Fashion auction in New York City, November 16.
No matter what you collect, this auction includes gems for everyone. Featured are a very rare c. 1850 2-piece yachting outfit from Hingham, MA, a 1760 Robe a l’Anglaise cherry red damask gown, a spectacular lamé coat fashioned from a fruit print by French modernist artist Raoul Dufy, a 1930’s Jean Patou Evening Gown, a 1954 beaded Don Loper gown made for cabaret singer Eartha Kitt, many 1970 mod rock & roll stage clothes worn by rock legend Edgar Winter, 1930s clothing from radio star Jessica Dragonette, 19th century fashion plates, and more…..
Many COUTURE garments at the November sale are important collection pieces from a wide selectionb of 20th century designers – McQueen, Dior, Balenciaga, Cardin, Versace, Chanel, Ceil Chapman, Norell, Halston, Gaultier, Prada, Galanos and Givency along with luxury goods from Hermes, Vuitton, Chanel, & Gucci.
Other items at the sale include 19th C. corsets and bonnets, a Jumlo button tunic from Pakistan, Turkish caftans, Cheongsams, Chinese robes, & other ethnic clothing, many lots of 18th C. handmade laces, paisleys, silk lingerie, hats, shawls,19th C. printed cotton & wool day dresses, beaded 1920’s flapper dresses and wraps, great accessories from all eras and more.
Highlighting the sale is a collection of eighteen Chinese medals awarded to Kuomintang General Jiang Dingwen. Also to be sold are Chinese garments from General Jiang’s daughter.
Augusta Auction’s Couture & Historic Fashion auction begins at noon on November 16, and will be held at 160 Central Park West on the corner of 76th Street.
