The celebrated King Farouk Magician Box timepiece, made in Geneva, Switzerland circa 1820 and attributed to Piguet & Meylan, with the goldsmith’s mark of Chenevard Jouvet & Cie, sold for $1.21 million at an Important Watches Auction held June 8 by Sotheby’s in New York City. Also, a rare Patek Philippe yellow gold world time wristwatch with enamel dial depicting Eurasia, made in 1949, climbed to $730,000; and a circa-1800 watch attributed to Piguet & Capt and titled The Cherry Pickers garnered $490,000. Prices are inclusive of the buyer’s premium.
