A Winchester Model 1886 rifle (serial #1) and a pocket watch presented to Capt. Henry Lawton following the surrender of the Apache leader Geronimo, sold for $1.265 million at a Premiere Firearms Auction held April 29-May 1 by Rock Island Auction Company in Rock Island, Ill. It was a new world record for a firearm sold at auction. Also, the 1931 prototype of the Springfield M1 Garand rifle rang out at $172,500; and a cased, factory-engraved Colt Model 1849 pocket percussion revolver hit the mark for $632,500. Prices include a 15 percent buyer’s premium.
