Artist on Monhegan, an oil on Masonite by Jay Hall Connaway in its period gesso frame, earned the highest price of a Nathan Auction & Real Estate sale in Manchester, VT, in July, closing at $4,059 against a $3,000-$4,000 estimate. Connaway’s rugged, atmospheric depiction of the Maine island reflected his decades painting its coastline. The 101-lot sale drew strong regional interest. Also, a watercolor on paper attributed to Paul Cézanne, titled Estrelles near Cannes, March 1864, realized $2,214.
