Genesee Country Village Marks September with Festivals and Tours

MUMFORD, New York — August, 2026 —

Genesee Country Village and Museum in Mumford, New York, has announced a full slate of September programming, headlined by the Hop Harvest Festival: Bines and Vines on Saturday, September 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors are invited to participate in the harvest at the museum’s historic hop field and newly refurbished Hop House behind Grieve’s Brewery, joining costumed interpreters in a tradition that defined New York State agriculture by the mid-19th century. The festival, sponsored by Rohrbach Brewing Company, also features live music, German dancing, tastings from a dozen local vendors offering beer, wine, spirits, mead, and non-alcoholic options, and a discussion on Rochester beer culture with Jon Urlab, founder of Rohrbach Brewing Company. Visitors can also tour one of the only working 19th-century breweries at an American museum and explore how historic trades including cooperage and pottery connect to the hop harvest.

The museum’s popular after-hours tour series returns with two distinct programs. Upstairs/Downstairs After-Hours Tours on Friday and Saturday, September 4 and 5, offer guided access to areas of the Historic Village not typically open during regular hours, with departure times at 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. The following weekend, September 11 and 12, the Brotherhood and Betrayal After-Hours Tours mark the 200th anniversary of the Morgan Affair, the 1826 kidnapping of rogue Freemason William Morgan in Batavia, New York, an event that directly shaped American political history and left its mark on several buildings within the village.

September also brings a rich offering of hands-on workshops covering 19th-century brewing, flower preservation, catsups and mustards, dyeing yarn, printmaking, everlasting harvest, and sweet and savory pies, with sessions scheduled on September 5, 12, and 26. Collectors and history enthusiasts with an interest in material culture will find the Hosmer’s Inn Historic Dinner on September 25 and 26 especially compelling, as guests are seated for a traditional seven-course dinner inside an 1818 Georgian inn relocated to the Historic Village. The museum has also announced the arrival of Tom and Ben, two Randall Lineback oxen calves representing a critically endangered New England heritage breed, now residing in a new enclosure at the museum’s Early Farmstead.

Visitors planning a September trip should note the museum’s adjusted seasonal hours. The museum operates Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., through September 6, then shifts to Thursday through Sunday beginning September 10. The museum will be closed to the public September 14-23, reopening Thursday through Sunday from September 24 through October 11. A $5 admission weekend is scheduled for September 26 and 27, and the deadline to submit entries to the Agricultural Fair’s Blue Ribbon Competition is Sunday, September 27, ahead of the fair on October 3 and 4.
