Two Lincoln-signed docs, $18.1 million, Sotheby’s

Two rare and historically significant documents sold for a combined $18.1 million at a Fine Books and Manuscripts auction held June 30th by Sotheby’s in New York. A congressional copy of the Thirteenth Amendment went for $13.7 million, while a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation realized $4.4 million. Both were new auction records and both docs were signed by then-President Abraham Lincoln. The buyer for both was Kenneth Griffin, the founder and CEO of Citadel.
