Gustav Klimt’s towering masterpiece, Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer (1914-1916), sold for $236.4 million from the Leonard A. Lauder Collection held November 18th by Sotheby’s in New York. It was the most valuable artwork
ever sold by Sotheby’s.
Also, Edvard Munch’s painting titled Sankthansnatt (Midsummer Night) fetched $35.1 million; Agnes Martin’s canvas titled The Garden rose to $17.6 million; and a group of six bronzes by Henri Matisse sold for a combined $49 million.
