Hake’s Launches Online Auction of Comic Art and Books
YORK, Pa. — September , 2026 —
Hake’s Auctions has opened bidding on a new Online Exclusive auction featuring nearly 400 lots of original comic art and comic books, with every lot carrying a $10 opening bid. The sale draws from an extensive range of material spanning Golden Age comics through modern original artwork, offering collectors at every level a rare opportunity to compete on significant pieces from the ground floor.
The original comic art portion of the auction includes work by some of the most recognized names in the industry, among them Chris Bachalo, John Byrne, Mike Deodato, Bryan Hitch, Stuart Immonen, Adam Kubert, Jim Lee, Kevin Maguire, Jim Starlin, and Tim Truman, along with many others. Highlights include a Kevin Maguire cover original for Suicide Squad No. 38, a Jim Starlin interior page from Thanos No. 1, and a John Byrne Adam Strange commission.
The comic book selection is equally broad, with key issues spanning titles including Amazing Spider-Man, Batman, Fantastic Four, Green Lantern, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars, Silver Surfer, Star Wars, Thor, Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine, and X-Men. Among the notable copies are Amazing Spider-Man No. 238 in CGC 9.8, representing the first appearance of Hobgoblin; Green Lantern Vol. 2 No. 87 in CGC 9.8, the first appearance of John Stewart; Green Lantern Vol. 2 No. 1 in CGC 6.5, the first appearance of the Guardians of the Universe; War Against Crime No. 11 in CGC 7.0, the first E.C. horror cover; and Human Torch No. 7 in CGC 5.5. Many Amazing Spider-Man copies in the sale carry signatures by John Romita.
