Shows cancelled as country deals with Caronavirus
Antique shows are the latest business segment to be hit by fear and uncertainty surrounding caronavirus. Shows scheduled in March and for April around the country are being cancelled to protect dealers and show-goers as health officials urge ‘social distance’ and discourage gatherings of large groups of people. The caronavirus, now considered by the World Heath Organization as a pandemic, is particularly dangerous to people over the age of 65 and those with underlying health conditions. In an abundance of caution, show promoters are making the most difficult of choices, which will have a ripple affect across the antiques market. Auction houses, which have over the years moved the majority of their active bidding online and over the phone, will continue to hold their upcoming auctions but some are now opting to cancel an in the room gathering. Before you head out to an auction or show, see our event calendar for cancellations and the Facebook and web site pages of your event host for any last minute changes.
