A late 18th century paint-decorated Berks County (Pa.) dower chest sold for $159,000 at a sale of the collection of Ellie Hoover Walker held Aug. 9 by Skinner Auctions in Marlborough, Mass. Also, a paint-decorated Federal two-drawer stand, made circa 1820-1830 in Norway, Maine, hit $116,850; a carved and painted pine hanging spice box made circa the late 19th century by Samuel L. Plank (Mifflin Cty., Pa., 1821-1900) made $58,425; and a Shenandoah Valley (Va.) paint decorated pine blanket chest brought $49,200. Prices include a 23 percent buyer’s premium.
