A 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle rookie baseball card, graded PSA NM-MT 8 (one of the 30 best graded versions of this card) sold for $400,950 (a record price for a Mantle card at auction) at a Summer Live Premium Auction held July 31 by Goldin Auctions (based in West Berlin, N.J.), during the National Sports Collectors’ Convention in Rosemont, Ill. Also, a bat signed in 1905 by Christy Mathewson, John McGraw and other players, in celebration of their World Series win that year, hit $218,700. Prices include a 21.5 percent buyer’s premium.
