A 20th century Thomason corkscrew with a brass handle shaped like a serpent, one of a few known, sold for $21,900 in an online auction held Nov. 3-12 by CollectorCorkscrews.com. Also, a 19th century American corkscrew marked by Tiffany, with a lion, snake and elephant’s head on a silver handle, made $10,200; and an elegant French 18th century “cage” corkscrew, handcrafted from steel, realized $5,700. The auction was managed by volunteers and had a 3 percent seller’s fee. There was no buyer’s premium.
