On July 23rd & 24th 2016, Donley Auctions will sell one of the largest collections of vintage phonographs and lighting ever to come to market. And auctioneer Randy Donley of Donley Auctions in Union Illinois claims that he has never seen anything quite like it before. Mr. Edward Boker of Riverside IL was one of those collectors who flew under the radar screen and over the course of the last 50 years amassed a collection that boggles the mind. “Ed started collecting in the 1950’s at a time when there was a big generational turn over and all the good stuff was coming out of houses.” explained Donley “Riverside Illinois was and still is an affluent suburb of Chicago so he was getting first shot at the best stuff. It was with an eye for the good stuff that he quietly built this beautiful collection that very few people knew about.”
When Mr. Boker passed away last year Donley was called in to appraise the collection.”It totally blew me away.”Donley continues “It was all neatly packed away in a 3,000 sq. ft. basement, floor to ceiling. It took us three full days just to work our way across the basement.” What Donley discovered was 400 vintage phonographs, over 200 pieces of table and floor lamps, 80 wood pedestals, and over forty thousand 78rpm records. The collection was moved to Union where it was catalogued and photographed prior to the July sale. “People who have seen the collection are amazed by the quality and original condition of the collection” Donley states.” If you are a collector of phonographs or vintage lighting this will not be a sale to miss.”
