Gavels and Paddles Results of Recent Auctions From Around the World A rare and important Thangka (Tibetan silk painting with embroidery) of the Green Tara (Tibet, 12th/14th century) sold for $1.76 million at a sale of Indian and Southeast Asian Art held September 12 by Christie’s in NY. It was a new world auction record for a Thangka. Also, a parcel gilt and polychromed Gray Schist figure of the Teaching Buddha (Gandhara, 2nd/3rd century) changed hands for $1.48 million. Prices include a 12 percent buyer’s premium.
