Ken’s Korner: Botched restoration lady sells art on eBay
News & Views From the World of Antiques & Collectibles By Ken Hall Remember the 80-year-old woman who totally botched the restoration of a Christ fresco in a small-town church in Spain? Her name is Celia Gimenez and she recently posted an original oil painting for sale on eBay. After 52 bids, and more that tripling its starting price, the work – titled Las Bodegas de Borja (“Borja’s Wine Cellar”) – sold for $1,421. Gimenez said she would donate the money to Caritas, a Catholic charity. She famously disfigured the Ecco Homo (Behind the Man) mural of Christ at the church she attends.
