Ken’s Korner News & Views from the World of Antiques & Collectibles By Ken Hall Joan Crawford’s Oscar is auctioned for $426K.
The Oscar that Joan Crawford won for her performance as Mildred Pierce in the 1945 film of the same name has been sold at auction for $426,732. The statue was offered through Nate D. Sanders Auctions in Los Angeles. It was the only Oscar earned by Ms. Crawford, in a movie about a restaurateur struggling to raise an ungrateful daughter. The win came just in time for Crawford, whose career was virtually moribund after a string of bombs. If fact, she had acquired the dubious Hollywood nickname “box office poison.”
