SOUTH YARMOUTH, MA…..The Cape Cod Antique Dealers Association (CCADA) will host a day-long seminar featuring four outstanding presentations by noted experts covering a number of fascinating topics in the field of antiques. This year, the presentations range from collecting rare books to collecting decoys; from the history of weather instruments to the art form of hooked rugs. The 6th Annual Spring Seminar will be held at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, 307 Old Main Street, South Yarmouth, MA, on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 8:30 am-3 pm. The seminar, although primarily held as an educational opportunity for CCADA members, is also open to other members of the antique community and public at-large who wish to gain additional knowledge on selected topics of interest. This year, the four topics, and the experts presenting them, are:
- “Hooked Rugs – An Enduring Art Form,” by Laura McCarthy, Bayberry Antiques, Rockland, MA – dealer in American country antiques and textiles;
- “How to Recognize, Collect, and Value Rare Books,” by James Visbeck, Isaiah Thomas Books, Cotuit, MA – dealer in used and rare books;
- “Watching the Weather – History of Weather Instruments,” by Parke Madden, Paul Madded Antiques, Sandwich, MA – an antique dealer for over 50 years dealing in quality Americana; and
- “Welcome to the Wonderful World of Decoys,” by Bill Bourne, Assistant Vice President, Eldred’s Auction Gallery, who heads up the Americana and Maritime Arts departments.
The cost of the seminar is $25 and includes morning coffee and lunch, provided by The Riverway Lobster House. Advanced registration is required by April 10, 2015 and can be done by calling the Cultural Center at 508-394-7100, or by mailing a check payable to CCADA to Barbara Adams, 289 Old Main Street, Yarmouth, MA 02664.
