A 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut coupe race car sold for 135 million euros ($142 million) at an invitation-only auction held May 5th by RM Sotheby’s at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. It was the most expensive car ever sold. The buyer was British car collector Simon Kidston, acting on behalf of a client. The previous auction record was a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO that sold for $48.5 million in 2018. Another car sold for $70 million in a private sale.
