A large and colorful portrait flask showing George Washington and a classical bust (possibly Henry Clay) sold for $60,840 in an Internet and catalog auction held by Norman C. Heckler & Co., based in Woodstock, Connecticut. The sale opened January 27 and closed February 6. Also, a pair of portrait flasks showing Washington and Zachary Taylor, both made by the Dyottville Glass Works (Philadelphia) brought $14,040 and $10,530; and a Type 1 free-blown lily pad compote made circa 1840 hammered for $11,115. Prices include a 17 percent buyer’s premium.
