Ken’s Korner: Rare Bach portrait found in Alabama

A rare portrait of German composer Johann Sebastian Bach, attributed to the relatively obscure painter Elias Gottlob Haussmann, has been discovered, in all places, in Alabama, and has been subsequently sold at auction for $122,500. The work is from the living estate of a Dutch aristocrat and reputedly traveled with the family to Alabama from Germany via Holland in the 19th century. It had been kept in storage since 1966 before being identified by John Jones, a representative with Freedman’s, the Philadelphia auction house.
