The son of the late Canadian photojournalist Jock Carroll has donated his father’s extensive photograph collection to the the National Library and Archives Canada in Ottowa. Carroll died in 1995 at age 76. His archives comprise more than 21,000 photos, including many of screen legends Marilyn Monroe, Robert Goulet, Gloria Swanson and Dean Martin. In 1952, Carroll had three days to shoot Monroe on the set of the film “[amazon_link id=”B000JF5T5W” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Niagara[/amazon_link].” [amazon_link id=”1567994113″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The collection was published in book form in 1996[/amazon_link].
In other Marilyn news, the late starlet made the Forbes.com top ten list of “Highest Earning Dead Celebrities” (she was seventh, and the only woman on the list, with earnings of more then $8 million a year; Elvis was #1, at $45 million a year).The value of Monroe collectibles hit the stratosphere in 1999 with the sale of the sequined dress she wore to serenade President Kennedy at his birthday part in 1962, just three months before her death. It sold through Christies for $1.26 million.
