Gavels and Paddles Results of Recent Auctions From Around the World A rare blue and white ceramic moon flask (Bianhu), from the Chinese Ming Dynasty, Yongle Period, sold for $1.3 million at a sale of Fine Chinese Ceramics & Works of Art held September 11-12 by Sotheby’s in NY. The 6 inch by 10 inch moon flask had belonged to a family on Long Island, NY, that kept it on a wooden stand and used it as a doorstop in their home. It was in the same family collection for decades and only came to light when the consignor saw a similar piece in a Sotheby’s advertisement. The price includes a 12 percent buyer’s premium.
