Gavels ‘n’ Paddles Recent Auction Results From Near & Far Six Chinese hebao, $11,700, Michaan’s
A group of six hebao (small, ornamental Chinese pouches used to carry money and other personal items) sold for $11,700 at an estate sale held Oct. 7 by Michaan’s Auctions in Alameda, Calif. Also, a lacquered and inlaid decorated Asian chest on a stand climbed to $3,510; a decorative statue of the deity Guan Yin realized $2,223; a pair of famille rose-enameled peacocks from the 19th century went for $2,925; and a pair of 14kt yellow gold carved, interlocking jadeite earrings found a new owner for $3,802. Prices include a 17 percent buyer’s premium.
