Gavels ‘n’ Paddles Recent Auction Results From Near & Far By Ken Hall A small version of the world-famous sculpture Le Penseur (The Thinker), originally designed for the Gates of Hell in Paris by French artist Auguste Rodin, sold for $2.2 million at an auction of The Marabou Collection held Dec. 4 by Bukowskis in Stockholm, Sweden. The 38 cm sculpture was made sometime between 1915 and 1925, spiking its value. Also, Jean (Hans) Arp’s Amphore de Muse went for $683,000; and a stone figure of Ganesha (India, Kamataka, Hoysala period, circa 11th/12th century) hit $654,000. Prices include a 10 percent buyer’s premium.
