The Duc d’Orleans Breguet Sympathique clock sold for $6.8 million at a sale of Important Watches & Clocks held Dec. 4 by Sotheby’s in New York City. It was a new world auction record for any clock. The rare Sympathique clocks helped cement the fame and renown of French watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet. Also, a fine, rare and massive Patek Philippe 18kt yellow gold center seconds wristwatch, made in 1955, Ref. #2512/1, sailed past its high estimate figure of $150,000 to hammer for $962,000. Prices include a 12 percent buyer’s premium.
