An early boxed English wooden doll in the original costume, similar to the Letitia Penn doll, made $57,500 at a Marquis Doll Auction, titled Provenance, held July 16th by Theriault’s, based in Annapolis, Md. Also, a French bebe by Denamur with the original painted masquerade mask, circa 1888, hit $32,200; an early English wax doll, attributed to Laetitia Clark Powell of London in the late 1700s, brought $19,950; and a pair of German felt character dolls by Steiff rose to $14,000. Prices include the buyer’s premium.
