Ken’s Korner: Stolen Hollywood scripts found in run-down house – The Journal of Antiques and Collectibles – February 2006
A trove of Hollywood memorabilia — including original manuscripts from movies like [amazon_link id=”B00003CX9E” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Citizen Kane[/amazon_link], [amazon_link id=”B007XF4J70″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Casablanca[/amazon_link] and [amazon_link id=”B005JZBP8W” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]My Fair Lady[/amazon_link], were found by police at a run-down, trash-filled house in Adelanto, Calif., near Los Angeles. Police searched the home while investigating a string of robberies.
One of the burglaries took place in a Beverly Hills home, where crooks made off with numerous Humphrey Bogart items, including letters from Ingrid Bergman and several personal photos. They also took an original, hand-typed play called Everybody Goes to Rick’s, which went on to become the classic movie[amazon_link id=”B002C6A6FY” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Casablanca[/amazon_link]. Many items are still missing, including manuscripts for [amazon_link id=”B002M2Z3BA” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Gone With the Wind[/amazon_link], [amazon_link id=”B00393SFWU” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Stage Coach[/amazon_link] and [amazon_link id=”B0020MMRC0″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Maltese Falcon[/amazon_link], plus a letter from Ingrid Bergman to her agent. Police think the thieves stashed the memorabilia in the house because it was too hot to sell. Such merchandise can’t be easily sold — even on eBay. It’s so famous it’s hard to dispose of.
