Gavels ‘n’ Paddles Recent Auction Results From Near & Far By Ken Hall E. Howard No. 46, $230,100, Fontaine’s
An E. Howard & Co. astronomical regulator No. 46 clock in fine condition, with clean running movement and a walnut case with the original finish, sold for $230,100 at a two-session auction held Nov. 17 by Fontaine’s Auction Gallery in Pittsfield, Mass. It was a new world auction record for an E. Howard & Co. clock. Also, a 12-foot-tall Richard Whittington grandfather clock made in 1793 realized $118,000; and an oil on wood panel portrait of a woman by Agnolo Bronzino (It., 1503-1572) went for $35,400. Prices include an 18 percent buyer’s premium.
