Gavels ‘n’ Paddles Recent Auctions from Near & Far By Ken Hall A brightly colored 1982 painting by LeRoy Neiman (1921-2012), titled Finish at Indy, depicting the closest finish in Indianapolis 500 history, sold for $94,300 at an auction held May 18-19 by Clars Auction Gallery in Oakland, Calif. Also, Neiman’s work titled Longchamp galloped off for $77,530; a painting by August Gay (1890-1949), titled Water, Sand and Patterns, fetched $59,500; and a portfolio of 20th century prints by Friedensreich Hundertwasser (Austrian, 1978-2000) went to a determined bidder for $26,180. Prices include a 19 percent buyer’s premium.
