Transportation is a subject that seems to be always in the news these days and usually for the wrong reasons. But that is not the story we are looking to tell in this issue. Instead, we are focused on the visionaries, inventors, engineers and industrialists of the 19th– to mid-20th century whose practical knowledge, engineering mindset, and vision contributed to the advancement, safety, speed and efficiency of modern-day travel as we know it, everything from steam powered transatlantic ocean liners to planes, trains, and automobiles.
