Civil War Era Tobacco Pipe Highlights Machaan's May 12 Gallery Auction

Civil War collectors take note: a  gold mounted Civil War era Tobacco Pipe carved with scenes of Appomattox Surrender is a featured item at Michaan’s Gallery Auction May 12, 2018.  This  unique historical artifact has an estimated auction value of $1,500-$2,000. The auction will also feature decorative arts, Asian art, jewelry and fine art. The auction will be held at Michaan’s Gallery Showroom, 2751 Todd Street, Alameda, CA , Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10am.
Also featured at this upcoming Gallery Auction is a 1982 pencil sketch  “Sneaker” by Andy Warhol. Estimated at $35,000-$45,000, “Sneaker” was authenticated by Warhol specialist Richard Polsky. A post-Impressionist landscape by Mario Puccini (1869-1920), “the Italian Van Gogh,” is one of many notable works of Italian fine art offered from a single collection amassed by an opera star.  A winsome bronze bear cub sculpture by early California artist Arthur Putnam (1873-1930) is also sure to get attention. Furniture includes a fabulous mid-century etched bronze coffee table by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne. Estate jewels include a lustrous Victorian coral cameo, a Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger charm, and dazzling gemstone jewelry from antique to contemporary. Michaan’s is also a leading Bay Area Asian art resource. Fine old Chinese furniture of rosewood and Zitan wood, turn-of-the-century stone guardian lions, beautiful Japanese antique collectibles, and clair-de-lune Chinese porcelains are also highlights this month.
