On July 4, 2026, America will be celebrating its semiquincentennial with special events planned over the next year and a half in cities, towns, and museums across the country to commemorate our nation’s history. Americana, a term broadly used to identify an item associated with the culture and history of America, is having a moment!
In this issue, we look at some of the most iconic symbols of Americana – from our recorded history preserved in libraries, private collections, and museums around the country to the images of George Washington that today define the man, and how the American Bald Eagle found its lofty perch – and explore the more controversial issue around buying and selling Black Americana.
