Ken's Korner: Dodo fossils found on Indian Ocean isle

Ken’s Korner: Dodo fossils found on Indian Ocean isle – The Journal of Antiques and Collectibles – April 2006
Collectors of fossils, dinosaur bones and the like will be interested to learn a mass grave of dodo birds — the first to be found since 1920 — has been discovered on the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius. The fossils are about 2,000 years old. Dodos became synonymous with stupidity (dodo is Portuguese for “fool”). Portuguese sailors discovered them in the late 16th century. It was their lack of fear of humans, their plump size (about 45 lbs.) and their inability to fly that led to their extinction.
