A 1912 oil painting by the American Impressionist Frederick Carl Frieseke, titled The Garden Chair, painted in the artist’s Giverny home, where his neighbor was the French Impressionist Claude Monet, sold for $962,500 at an American Art Auction held May 21 by Bonhams in New York City. Also, George Catlin’s Blackfoot Indian Group fetched $338,500; Horace Pippin’s Flowers with Four Doilies achieved $146,500; and John Singer Sargent’s Portrait of Ms. Theodore Frothingham, Jr., made $110,500. Prices include a 20 percent buyer’s premium.
