Tree of Life Medallion Pattern, 1850-1860 Hannah E. Hamblin Delano (1824-?)

This quilt is a unique combination of design motifs and quilt styles. The central medallion quilt pattern enjoyed resurgence in popularity in the mid-nineteenth century. The Tree of Life pattern, with large-scale flowering trees and bushes, is very reminiscent of quilts and counterpanes made in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

Appliquéd and embroidered cotton, unquilted
