Gavels ’n’ Paddles Recent Auction Results from Near and Far By Ken Hall A 10-panel folding longevity screen chock full of Asian symbolism for life and endurance – to include cranes and tortoises among gardens, mountains, rivers and waterfalls – sold for $603,750 at an Antiques, Asian & Fine Art Auction held January 31-February 1 by James D. Julia, Inc., in Fairfield, Maine. Also, an oil on canvas depiction of fishermen in the misty morning by Frederick Mulhaupt, titled Gloucester Netters, brought $57,500; and a folk art rendering of the pilot boat Fannie by Antonio Jacobsen gaveled for $52,900. Prices include a 15 percent buyer’s premium.
