Ken's Korner: Divers find treasure from sunken galleon

Ken’s Korner: Divers find treasure from sunken galleon – The Journal of Antiques and Collectibles – June 2006
Divers off Key West, Fla., surfaced with two gold bars and 15 silver coins — treasures that had been buried under the ocean floor for nearly 400 years. The objects are from the shipwreck of the Nuestra Senora de Atocha, a Spanish galleon that sank in 1622, about 35 miles off the coast. The divers discovered them beneath about 12 feet of sand, in 20 feet of water. Their value has been estimated at around $250,000. The divers are with the treasure-hunting firm Mel Fisher Treasures.
