Ken’s Korner: Virginia’s new Governor got a Colonial swearing-in – The Journal of Antiques and Collectibles – April 2006
Virginia’s Capitol building in Richmond is being renovated, so when it came time for Timothy Kaine, 47, to be sworn in as the 70th governor in January, the festivities were held in Colonial Williamsburg, where re-enactors preserve the world of Colonial Virginia. About 40,000 people turned out. The ceremony included such touches as an 18th-century cannon, horse-drawn carriages and a fife-and-drum corps. The last governor to be sworn in there was Thomas Jefferson. It was Jefferson who moved the Capitol from Williamsburg to Richmond, in 1780, during the Revolutionary War.
